I Am Officially Mummy

So Waverly has started calling me "mummy" - not all of the time, but most of the time. It is adorable and I can only hope that she will continue to develop a British accent. Here is a photo from last night. We asked Waverly to take off Oliver's socks while he was playing in his jumper. She is a very good helper.
**Note the backpack is still on**

A Day At The Parks

We spent today walking some of London's best parks. We began the morning in Hyde Park and visited the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain, Serpentine & Speakers' Corner. The fountain was beautiful and Waverly enjoyed putting her hands & feet in the cold water. Then we headed over to Kensington Gardens and the incredible Princess Diana Memorial Playground. Waverly had a wonderful time - this photo was taken there. It is Peter Pan themed with a large pirate ship and other very unique areas for the kids to play. J.M. Barrie used to live right off of the Gardens and we walked by the place he once lived. Then we headed to Regent's Park for a picnic dinner, a game of catch and some bubbles. It was a picture perfect day - sunny and warm.

Home Sweet Home

Here it is! We got the keys to our new flat today. We took a walk up there tonight to check it out. It is HUGE (in London terms), albeit with terrible furniture. We will be sending for some of our own furniture to try to make it homey. Waverly loved it - there is a perfect "racetrack" between the living & dining rooms - she spent most of her time running on it. We will officially move in next week. Here is a photo of our new building.

It Feels Like Autumn In July!!

Hello everyone. I took this picture of Wavey this morning. She wanted to wear her "puppy dog" shirt. It is super chilly here - it feels more like fall weather than the end of July. I didn't believe it when I read it rarely gets over 70 degrees, but it is true. We have been busy preparing for our upcoming move. We will soon see some of the items we packed away well over a year ago when we moved out of our home in Ohio. It will feel a little like Christmas for us. I am hoping to see our new apartment tonight. I will be up in the neighborhood getting together with some friends at a local pub. This will be my first night out since we arrived in London, so I am VERY excited. Oliver slept a second night in his crib and it was wonderful. Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NANA!!! (I forgot to include that in last night's post.)

Pigs Flew!!

Oliver slept through the night and stayed in his crib the entire time!! We have not have a solid night's sleep since we arrived in London, so last night was a real treat. Of course sleeping through the night for Oliver means getting up at 5:30 am, but Matt & I are going to bed at 9:00 pm to prepare. Good night.

Surprise!

We're moving!! We weren't supposed to move into our permanent flat until September, but we just received word that it will be ready for us this weekend. There is SO much to do to prepare, but we are really excited to get all of our belongings out of storage and make a home here in London. We are only moving about 1 mile away, but it is a totally different neighborhood to explore and discover.
This is just a cute photo of Oliver I took this morning. He loves Wavey's "Not So Scary Monster" Polly.

We All Fall Down

Waverly wanted to play "Ring Around the Rosey" tonight before we put the kids to bed. She was VERY excited that Oliver wanted to play with her.

*The* Backpack

Waverly has discovered the phenomenon of "Dora". She loves the show - mostly because Dora wears a backpack. But during that brief segment of the show where the backpack talks & sings, Waverly is in heaven. I found a Dora backpack at Woolworths and I gave it to her today. She hasn't taken it off all day. She does get frustrated that she can't see it while wearing it. I think she will be sleeping with it tonight.
She is waving "hi-ya" to everyone!

Both Kids Are Asleep!!

Here is a photo of Matt & Wavey in front of the Embassy. It is an ugly building, but it is off of a lovely square where we love to play while waiting for Matt. Waverly is holding the stick bouquet she made for me.
It is a gorgeous day - very summer like for London. We met some other families at Regent's Park for a picnic coordinated by the Embassy. Matt is working a lot of overtime, so he wasn't able to join us. His hours are very long at the moment and he will have to begin working weekends. Yuck!
Waverly did very well at school today. She completed a craft project on the senses and she used a few new words today in class - including the word "want" & "drink". Her therapists realized that she has an incredible love for singing (yeah!) and a great memory for songs. They may begin incorporating that into her therapy sessions.
Oliver is growing up so quickly. He loves to eat his baby food and cries every time he finishes his meal. He is almost sitting on his own. He has taken to waking up before 6 o'clock each morning and screeching. (Remember he is sharing our room.) Hence our days are beginning earlier these days.
We are hoping to get out of London soon. We may take a day and head down to the coast. Some fun in the sun on the beach would be wonderful right about now.

Picnic in the Park

We spent the evening in Regent's Park (along with every other person in London, it seemed) having a lovely picnic together. I guess a rare entire day of sunshine really gets the Brits outside and enjoying nature. It was a great way to end the day.
Matt snapped this photo after bathtime and I love it.

Weekend Arrives!!!

We walked down to the Embassy tonight to walk home with Matt. Waverly loves to run around in Grosvenor Square collecting sticks and hugging trees (literally). She made a lovely branch bouquet for me.

Matt and I registered with the National Health Service this week. Free health care!!

Happy birthday to our nephew Ethan - he turned 10 today!! And happy birthday to our friend Judy - who didn't turn 10 today!!

Oliver in '08

So I tend to avoid political discussions at all cost, but I really think that I can get behind this candidate. Introducing Oliver, with just a little bit of blueberry-banana on his face.

And we're back...

Sorry about the lapse in postings. I have been feeling a bit under the weather.

Here is a photo we took of the kids last night. Oliver doesn't look nearly as frightened as last time. Waverly still gets a kick out of holding him. They look so cute together!

Happy Surprise Birthday Party, Nana!! My entire family is in PA to celebrate my grandmother's 80th birthday. We are very sad not to be there. Thanks for the photos, Meg! They make me feel like I am there. Eat all of the yummy Pennsylvania food for us.
This is a photo of Waverly at the park. She loves to go to the playground - we go almost every day. Her balance and coordination are improving. We are noticing quite a difference. She is so much fun!
Oliver ate sweet potato & pumpkin baby food tonight. He loved it.
Congrats Venus!! Now go eat some strawberries & cream!

Happy 4th!!!

Waverly was playing Elefun today (Laura's favorite game) and wanted Oliver to play. This is her way of sharing. She likes to say "Wavey's turn". Nice big sister.

No real Independence Day celebrations here - go figure. Matt did have off, so we enjoyed a fun family day on the riverfront and at the park. It was cold & rainy.

Larry & Kerry (if you read this): Happy 1 year anniversary! 4th of July...Alexandria...fireworks...remember.

One Month Down

We have been here for one whole month, and I must say that we have really enjoyed our time in London. It is definitely feeling more and more like home.

I took this photo of Waverly & Oliver tonight. We chose to post this one because Oli's face is just priceless. Waverly loves to hold "it" ("it" being Oliver) and he was a bit frightened at this particular moment. She was having a ball during our little photo shoot.

London went smoke free today - we are thrilled.
