Road Trip

We are about to leave for our drive up to PA to spend Thanksgiving with my family.  Waverly was so excited when I told her we were going to see Grandma & Grandpa.  I waited to tell her until after she got off the bus.  We are going to pick up Matt at the metro station and then away we go.  I am hoping the traffic won't be too bad.  I am so anxious to see everyone.

This has been a rough week for all of us.  There have been many more changes in Waverly.  I think we are entering another hyper stage.  It is difficult because she has so much energy, but very little coordination and her brain just doesn't understand.  She is climbing on everything and chewing like I have never seen her chew before.  Her hands are losing strength.  She can't hold onto a ziploc bag anymore (I always carry them with me filled with snacks for the car.  Now I have to pass them to her one at a time.)  She is falling more and more.  And then we look at Oliver and know that he is going to have to endure these same difficulties.

This is going to be an emotional Thanksgiving.  At times I don't feel like I have a whole lot to be thankful for.  Yet,  I cherish every day I have with the kids and I am thankful to spend this time with 2 incredible souls.

I hope you all have a very happy Thanksgiving.

You don't know me, I found your blog through a friend of a friend's blog but I can not help but to check back and hear the story of your life with your two precious children. I pray your Thanksgiving will be a blessing as you spend the day with family and your beautiful children. Thanks for sharing.
Watching Waverly like that must be so tough. I just can't imagine. You seem to handle it with such grace and you have such a good attitude and outlook through all these tough times. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you. I pray you have a fantastic Thanksgiving and wonderful time with your family this weekend.

Words fail me.

This is one of the enduring questions of life on earth: why do these things happen?

I check your blog weekly and pray for your family. Just wanted to wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving with the kids and your extended family. The birthday pictures of Waverly are beautiful! She looks so happy. Your husband did a great job with the London video! It made me cry. What precious little ones you have. Continuing to pray for your journey.

I am so sorry about the changes in Waverly. This disease is so cruel in that it happens little by little and there is nothing that we can do to stop it. Last year was our first holiday after diagnoses, this year seems a little easier. I hope that your Thanksgiving was well. Somehow we will endure. Please know that I am praying for your beautiful family. Misty

i have been exploring Holland for 15 years -- ever since my husband's near-fatal car accident. he suffered major brain trauma and i "lost" the man i loved that day.

your blog is such a beautiful reminder to cherish what we have and try to not focus on what tomorrow might bring. your honesty and courage are a blessing to those who are led here.

thank you for sharing. you are in my prayers.
