One Sided

It was more difficult than I thought it would be to get back into our routine.  It was nice being around family and having Matt home.  I loved the extra hands, but I really enjoyed the company.  I tend to get lonely.  I realized while strolling around Target last week one night, without the kids (thanks Mom!), that I talk to them constantly.  Narrating life for them.  I caught myself a few times saying "let's go get some diapers" or "ready, steady, go"- out loud.  The other customers must have thought I was crazy.  I spend a lot of time talking to them, wishing they could talk back.  How I would love to have a conversation with Waverly.

I can relate totally (pointing things out to the kids even when they're not along). I cannot drive by myself without pointing out any interesting roadside thing I see (to the kids, there or not). I ache for you because I'm imagining how you would like to talk with Waverly ...

I understand that feeling. It's good you keep talking, even when they can't talk back.

This breaks my heart as this is something most of us take for granted (me included). I pray for days when i can just go have a conversation with someone other than my kids. Thank you for making my eyes open to what a blessing it is to have a chat with my little boogers.

Dear Shannon,

Words just aren't enough to express my empathy for your situation. A friend, Gina Alvarez Sunukjian, e-mailed us about the fundraising opportunity, and I went straight to your blog. After reading some of your entries, I felt both sad and uplifted. It is obvious that you have a lot of courage and a lot of love for your children. They are beautiful and precious. Thank you for sharing about them with us. You're all in our prayers.

I understand exactly what you mean. Hannah can say maybe 5 words and it just breaks my heart that she can't talk back and she tries so hard, but the only thing that comes out is babbeling. Please know that you are not alone in your feelings. You have beautiful children and I will be praying for you and your family.
